We stopped to allow two deer to cross the road before us.
From down on the bank, I cast out into the lake. I’m beginning to like that whirring sound the fishing line makes as it leaves my pole, and the splash the lure makes when it hits the water. After a few minutes, I felt a little tug on my line and I noticed that my bobber had disappeared. “Maybe it’s caught on some lily pads,” I thought. Then, there was another tug! I decided to tug back, and I ended up reeling in my first catch in 30 years! It was my first catch EVER if you don’t count the fish I caught in my grandpa’s pond when I was little. (He baited the hook, cast the line, and helped me reel it in.)
It wasn’t very big, but let me tell you something. I was proud.
A few minutes later, I caught a second fish that looked so much like the first that I’m not sure which fish I’m holding up in which of these pictures. Anyway, I think I’m hooked.
Can anyone tell me what type of fish I caught?
Congratulations, Kim, glad to see your hooked! Every picture tells a story and that picture tells me you are enjoying yourself very much. Really that is what fishing is all about.
ReplyDeleteI think you have a Bluegill there. They are tough, scrappy, little fish and fun to catch on a light action rod and reel. Wishing you more happy hook ups to come!
Kim, I have looked at the picture a little more. Just like seeing a happy fisher gal! On second look, you might have a small Bass there. Kind of hard to tell from the picture exactly. I might have to go fishing up there myself someday.
ReplyDeleteHey Kim, great article here! It has characteristics of a bluegill like Mel said (dark spot and overall color), but the body shape and pattern resembles a smallmouth bass.
ReplyDeleteThis is a tough one...should send it to Idaho Fish and Game to see what the final verdict is!
Hello Kim,
ReplyDeleteGreat to see your smile as you become hooked, I'm absolutely no help as to what type of fish you have there, but it's certainly not a Welsh fish!
Tight Lines,
John
Thanks, Mel. It must have been a Bluegill because I haven't seen a single mosquito at Fernan Lake. Whatever it was, I think there were a bunch of them hanging around the area of the lake I was fishing from. For about half an hour, I would get a nibble right away every time I cast my line. I only caught two fish, but there were a couple times they ate my worm and then got away.
ReplyDeleteDaniel, I might try to do that. Will they really respond to a small time fisherwoman wannabe like myself?
ReplyDeleteJohn, thanks for your support. Say "hello" to Lucy for me. My Lucy is a Golden Retriever.
ReplyDeleteThose fish pictures are super. The setting where you caught your fish-the mountain lake, looks very picturesque and serene...;)
ReplyDeleteHi Kim, it is Linda. Love reading all about the adventures. Yes folks I actually know this family really well and they are terrific. The photo with you and that fish, still laughing Love ya
